So here we are again, another year underway and, as far as we can see from our recruitment agency in Macau, 2017 promises to be an exciting year for our region. The demand for talent remains at an all-time high. Some of bigger casinos here in Macau have already declared what they will be paying out in bonuses in order to retain the very best talent within their respective organisations.

The retail market in Macau is particularly interesting as we approach Chinese New Year, with sales relatively up and customer numbers also up from both mainland China and incoming visitor numbers, both from the sea and airports.
Macau’s luxury retailers in particular are enjoying post-Christmas success, especially the watches and jewellery market, which has suffered over the last two years.
There does seem to be more of an appetite from employers to meet potential candidates who are looking for a job in retail before Chinese New Year, rather than after, which suggests that retailers are being more proactive than ever to secure the right candidates post-CNY.
HR managers in Macau are also in demand, as potential corporate restructure and a review of policy and procedure gets under way.
We are seeing retailers being more aggressive now with local promotions and further discounts being given for Macau locals in order to encourage spending in the region.
Hotels in Macau will certainly be following suit, with promotions to be given over Chinese New Year and Valentine’s day, so Macau can certainly expect an uptake of visitors who will no doubt be dipping into their pockets and looking to treat their loved ones.
If you are a retailer working in Macau and would like to explore the current market a little further, or even if you are currently working in another field and are interested in pursuing a job in retail in Macau, we would be more than happy to have a conversation and see how we can help take your career to the next level. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
