Are You Up to Date with China’s Latest Regulations & Laws?
Marking the end of a 3-year wait, China has finally opened its doors to the world once more as of early 2023. This major event is slated to boost the growth of industries around the world, seeing that China is a key player in the global economy – accounting for a whopping 18.6% of it.
To welcome travellers and businesses back, China has introduced a host of initiatives such as the resumption of all visas – including businesses visas – to foreigners and the removal of COVID-related measures for the movement of goods and services. The city of Shanghai also announced 22 new measures to boost the economy – covering various aspects such as consumer consumption, infrastructure and loans & risk compensation funds.
Additionally, in order to enhance the security of cross-border transfer of personal information, China’s Cyberspace Administration has released the Standard Contract for Cross-border Transfers of Personal Information. Taking effect from 1 June 2023, what this means is that data processors who want to transfer personal data out of Mainland China will have to enter into legal contracts and take a security assessment – another welcome move for companies that prioritise compliance with data protection laws.
In a speech in March 2023, China’s vice-premier explained that the country would focus on expanding market access for foreign companies and strengthening investor confidence.
